How To: Live With A Crazy Person, By A Crazy Person - By Marianne

    cassket:

    1. Believe us when we talk about our craziness.

We know we’re crazy. It isn’t news to us. We know a thing or two about our own issues, and if you’re willing to live with us, it’d be…

I think “do not coddle us” should be on the list. Yeah we know we’re depressed and yes we know you just want to help, but coddling us makes it seem like we need help in the wrong way; that we’re too far gone to do anything on our own. It makes us (or at least me) feel like people treat us/me like I’m permanently crazy, instead of having those irrational moments. It also instills the mindset that we can’t do anything without help, and that we don’t be able to stand on our own and will always depend on others. We are still humans who feel the urge to be independent and want to be a productive member of society (between bouts of whatever we suffer from). Coddling just never really works no matter how much you want to help.
